The discussion will focus on the significant role that professional societies play in fostering and supporting international and interdisciplinary research and development collaborations, aligning with the goals of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

Speaker – CarolAnne Black | CarolAnne Black Consulting Science Writers
CarolAnne is the founder and principal consultant at CarolAnne Black Consulting Science Writers, based in Ottawa, Canada.
She specializes in ocean storytelling. Her strength is connecting with ocean experts and helping them tell their stories. CarolAnne provides her clients with expertise in ocean science, literacy, and policy, as well as gender equity. CarolAnne holds a Master of Science in physical oceanography (Dalhousie University, Canada) and has over ten years of experience writing about the ocean.
Working with her team, CarolAnne's work spans reports, including studies of gender equity in ocean science; news and feature articles; white papers; peer-reviewed papers; a children's novel about a boy who stows away on a Canadian Coast Guard research vessel; a script examining the relationship between fisheries and marine mammals in Eastern Canada; and a storytelling adventure about an American eel that lives in the Ottawa River.
